Assistant Surgeon General Personnel and Resources

As the Assistant Surgeon General for Personnel and Resources, the incumbent is a key leader responsible for directing and coordinating strategic plans, execution, and decision-making for the Air Force Medical Service's (AFMS) future concepts and capabilities. This role involves driving strategic engagement on Military Health System (MHS) development, overseeing readiness and healthcare programs, and advising senior Air Force, Space Force, and Department of Defense leaders on the health of all personnel and beneficiaries. The position provides oversight for personnel plans, resourcing policies, and the strategic planning and budgeting processes, representing AFMS interests at executive-level boards and councils. Furthermore, the incumbent shares responsibility for the executive leadership and management of the AF/SG staff and Directorates, ensuring the establishment and maintenance of high professional and technical standards. This executive provides direction over a global organization, ensuring mission requirements are met through the integration of activities that have inter-agency, international, and domestic impacts.
Requirements
Eligibility will be based upon a clear showing the applicant has training, education and experience of the scope and quality sufficient to effectively carry-out the duties of the position. Candidates must exemplify the corporate perspective, leadership vision, broad experience and character needed in the SES corps not only to satisfy the immediate vacancy, but future vacancies which will occur in a variety of organizations, functions and locations. TECHNICAL QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants must reflect superior technical qualifications demonstrated through leadership and management in the following: TQ1: Demonstrated ability to direct and lead the oversight of enterprise-wide operations and authorities including budget and resources management to ensure compliance with Federal regulations. TQ2: Demonstrated ability to formulate and implement policy across a geographically dispersed service organization, and to work complex and sensitive issues with other external groups such as other agencies and regulatory bodies. The ideal candidate would possess experience in Executive Leadership and Policy Formulation, Advanced Education and Relevant Experience and Strategic Program Management. The individual must possess a broad point of view and an awareness and understanding of individual or organizational responsibilities in relation to DoD or government-wide strategic priorities.
