Plumbing Instructor


The Plumbing Instructor is a contract instructional opportunity for a licensed plumbing professional who is passionate about sharing their knowledge and preparing adult learners for successful careers in the plumbing industry. You'll combine classroom instruction with hands-on training, helping students develop the technical skills, professionalism, and confidence needed to enter the workforce.

The Goodwill Career & Technical Academy is seeking an experienced Plumbing Instructor to lead our next cohort of aspiring skilled trades professionals beginning in September 2026.


Role and Responsibilities

  • Deliver engaging classroom and hands-on instruction using the NCCER Plumbing curriculum.
  • Teach plumbing fundamentals, blueprint reading, pipefitting, plumbing codes, system installation, maintenance, and repair techniques.
  • Demonstrate safe work practices and proper use of tools, equipment, and personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Supervise students during lab activities while reinforcing industry standards and jobsite safety.
  • Bring lessons to life through real-world examples, demonstrations, and practical applications drawn from your professional experience.
  • Create an inclusive learning environment that supports students with varying learning styles and experience levels.
  • Monitor student progress, provide coaching and feedback, and maintain accurate attendance, testing, and program documentation.
  • Assist with curriculum updates and instructional materials to ensure training remains current with industry standards.
  • Ensure all instruction complies with applicable local, state, and federal regulations.


Supervisory Responsibility

This position does not have supervisory responsibilities 


Required Qualifications

  • Must be 21 years of age. 
  • Possess high school diploma or GED.
  • Extensive experience as a licensed plumber in the residential and/or commercial plumbing industry with in-depth knowledge of plumbing systems, codes and regulations.
  • Must be able to pass a background check.
  • A passion for inspiring students to pursue a career as a plumber.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master Plumber License.
  • Experience teaching the NCCER Plumbing curriculum.
  • OSHA 10 Outreach Authorized Trainer credential.
  • Experience developing partnerships with plumbing contractors, employers, or industry organizations.
  • Experience preparing students for industry-recognized certifications.
  • At least (1) year of previous experience teaching in a classroom environment.


Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work in a non-climate-controlled environment.
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel and twist for 8 hours. 
  • Ability to lift 35 pounds frequently. 
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employees is regularly required to talk, hear, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer and telephone. 
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision requirements due to computer work. 
  • Regular, predictable attendance is required as business demands dictate.
