Fire Protection Inspector
This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. This position is included under the provisions of Special Retirement Coverage (SRC) and may have both a maximum entry age and a mandatory retirement date. - Inspects high-risk areas, industrial facilities, and aviation sites.
- Identifies hazards, devises correction actions, and maintains inspection records.
- Applies NFPA, National Fire Codes (NFC), and Army regulations.
- Develops and presents fire safety classes post-wide, tailoring instruction to the age and interests of participants.
- Reviews architectural drawings and specifications for code compliance.
- Tests fire suppression, detection, notification systems, and water distribution flows.
- Responds to emergency calls as part of a firefighting team, performing fire suppression, fire investigations, and hazardous materials abatement.
Requirements
Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) Conducting facility inspections to identify fire hazards. 2) Recommending corrective actions by interpreting fire regulations. 3) Conducting routine testing of fire protection systems to ensure operational readiness. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07). In addition to meeting the specialized experience requirement above, applicants must also possess Firefighter I, Firefighter II, Fire Instructor I, Fire Inspector I, Fire Inspector II, Hazardous Materials Operations, and Airport Firefighter certified through DoD Fire and Emergency Services Certification System, International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC), or the Fire Service Professional Qualifications System (PRO-Board) in accordance with DoD 6055.06-M.
